Wet air scrubbing remains the most cost effective and versatile

Of all available air pollution control techniques, wet air scrubbing is considered to be the most cost effective and versatile. Most wet air scrubbing techniques are highly effective and provide 99% treatment quality of both particulate matter and aerosol pollutants. Wet air scrubbers are not only effective but also efficient and often require less energy than other air scrubbing systems.

Wet air scrubbers achieve high efficiencies by forcing the contact between a fine water mist and particulate matter. The contact may occur in a tight space, like in a venturi scrubber throat, or in a chamber, like in a packed bed scrubber. The mist may also be produced differently in different wet air scrubber types. For example, packed bed scrubbers the droplets are produced by coating the packing material with a very thin coat of a cleaning liquid, whereas in venturi wet air scrubbers the mist is produced by introducing the cleaning liquid at high velocities into the scrubber throat. The effectiveness of the scrubber depends on the technique used to achieve a mist and the way the polluted air contacts with the cleaning liquid.

Another important quality of wet air scrubbers is their versatility. Most wet scrubbers may be utilized for removing both particulate matter and gaseous pollutants as the rate of the pollutant removal is nearly always the same for both types of air pollution. Wet air scrubbers have also been found to be effective against odors, therefore they may be used for air purification. However, some wet air scrubbers are inherently less effective at gaseous pollutants removal or particle collection due to specific design characteristics. Most packed bed scrubbers are not appropriate for particulate matter collection, whereas cyclonic wet air scrubbers are not effective against gaseous pollutants.

The design faults of wet air scrubbers can be mitigated by expanding their design and introducing new parts, improved materials, and other measures in order to perfect the scrubber and make it most appropriate for a particular application. These measures often include lining vulnerable scrubber parts with a protective material to reduce the corrosion that occurs inside some wet air scrubbers; replacing spray nozzles with stronger ones, etc.

Scroiler™ is a new type of wet air scrubber that is devoid of many wet air scrubber’s drawbacks while operating at the same efficiency. Scroiler™ can replace any wet air scrubber as a whole, and in some cases, we can use old scrubber – primarily it’s body – as a basis for a Scroiler™ system. Being a new type of wet air scrubber, Scroiler™ cleans air from gases, dust, vapors and other admixtures using water or other cleaning liquid. Scroiler™ produces the cleaning mist differently from other scrubber systems, which results in running costs that are much lower than for a common wet air scrubber.
