Wet Exhaust Gas Cleaning with Wet Air Scrubbers

Wet air scrubbing is a simple and effective way of exhaust air or gas cleaning and removal of toxic or smelling compounds. In wet air scrubbers, the exhaust gas gets in close contact with fine water droplets or a water mist in a co-current or countercurrent flow. The wet air scrubbing methods are more effective when the water drop size is smaller and the total surface between water or other washing liquid and the gas gets larger. The water is recirculated within the wet scrubber in order to save water and reduce the amount of water wasted.

Wet air scrubbers are able to remove the following components from the exhaust gas:

  • Water soluble substances;
  • Dust;
  • Chemicals that can be hydrolyzed;
  • Steam.

The result of the wet air scrubbing is decontamination, detoxification, dust removal, dehumidification and removal of odors. Wet air scrubbers are most efficient at the removal of water-soluble components, however, this varies depending on the type of a wet air scrubber being used, as different types of wet scrubbers are efficient at the removal of different pollutants. In addition, the absorption rate can be increased by using acid washing liquid for the removal of basic components, and by using basic washing liquid to remove acid components.

The water that is being used in the process of exhaust air scrubbing is contaminated by the water-soluble components that are present in the polluted gas. An optional neutralization unit may be installed in the wet air scrubber to keep the pH value of wastewater at a neutral level.

A wet air scrubber may be combined with other air scrubber methods, e.g. gases can be first cleaned by a washer, treated by a thermal reactor, after which the gas can be treated again by a wet air scrubber. However, Optromix Multi-vortex wet air scrubber has an efficiency of more than 99%.

Multi-vortex wet air scrubber is a new type of wet air scrubber that is devoid of many wet air scrubber’s drawbacks while operating at the same efficiency. Multi-vortex wet air scrubber can replace any wet air scrubber as a whole, and in some cases, we can use old scrubber – primarily it’s body – as a basis for a Multi-vortex wet air scrubber system. Being a new type of wet scrubberMulti-vortex wet air scrubber cleans air from gases, dust, vapors and other admixtures using water or other cleaning liquid. Multi-vortex wet air scrubber produces the cleaning mist differently from other scrubber systems, which results in running costs that are much lower than for a common wet scrubber.
